Make Work

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago convened alumni and friends to create the MakeWork Council in 2015. MakeWork is a student venture fund, supported by strategic partners, which awards seed funding to select student entrepreneurs. Endeavors are creative in nature, built at the intersection of arts and technology. DJ Catrow, alumni of the SAIC Visual Communication MFA program and co-chair of the Council, offered Mokey Boon’s services pro bono to name, brand, and launch MakeWork.

Being in a leadership role for the venture gave Mokey Boon a vested interest in developing and establishing a strong brand and identity. In the same way we work to immerse ourselves in our client’s missions and visions to determine their brand direction, we needed to dive into the core values of this new venture council.

The name, MakeWork, is meant to embody the actual mission of the council: Making art Work, Making entrepreneurship Work, Making creativity Work. Once named, a visual identity system and collateral was developed to support the brand and validate the new venture. Going through the branding process for MakeWork emphasized the importance of the council’s role in advancing creative student endeavors, by iterating the importance of design and digital brand work to entrepreneurial success.
